„Wishes and Visions“ – eTwinning > Comenius

By Erika

Secondary School Children (10 –15) from Nethland, Italy and Austria are creating a virtual 3D museum, to express  “Wishes and Visions” of their future in a creative way.

In autumn 2008 my collegue Mario Bellomo (Istituto comprensivo San Biagio, Vittoria, Sicilia) and me (Gymnasium Erlgasse)  decided to start an eTwinning Project to create a virtual children’s museum.

We could convince two more schools  join the project. The Haag’s Montessory Lyceum (Den Haag, Netherland) and the KMSI Sechshauserstraße (Vienna) .

From 18th to 21st december 2008 we met in Vienna for a preparatory meeting, as we decided to change the eTwinning projetct into a Comenius Project next autumn.

Lodewijk Voorhoeve, a young student from the Montessori Lyceum tought ten Austrian  pupils how to work with the program „Active Worlds“. The young people were highly motivated. Lodewijk did a great job!

We teachers from all partnerschools ( Giovanna Iacono, Adele Re, Helene Swaton, Sieglinde Massiecszk, Piet Heyboer, Sasja Roumimper, Marion Grabenweger and me)discussed and planned the Comenius project.

Summary Description of the Project:

Secondary School Children (10 –15) from Nethland, Italy and Austria are creating a virtual 3D museum, to express  “Wishes and Visions” of their future in a creative way. This multicultural and multilingual project started as an eTwinning Project in autumn 2008 and hopefully will become a Comenius project in august 2009.
The kids will create „seasons’ buildings“ in their interactive virtual world (muve=multiuser virtual environment) by using the program “Active Worlds” and define topics such as: “This will be my family”, “ Sports and fun when we are grown up..”
The items for the second year will be discussed.
The items of display in these houses will be texts, poems, paintings, audio files, video files ecc., created by all pupils of all the schools together.
They will be easily integrated  in the curricula of any subject.
The partnership for the project “Wishes and Visions” is to make students aware of open minded approach to other cultures and languages, the ability to express their own identity and the responsibility for their own future by building subconsciously a kind of collective intelligence.
The museum will be open for every interested guest over the world and we will be happy to invite other schools and countries to join the project.
